LECTURE: THE LEGENDARY SNALLYGASTER

C. Burr Artz Public Library, Frederick

Patrick Boyton, author of the regional bestseller Snallygaster: The Lost Legend of Frederick County, will provide an illustrated program examining the historical context for the famous legend. In addition to exploring its roots in Pennsylvania Dutch folklore, examples of how local newspapers used Snallygaster stories to address political and social issues also will be discussed. Free and open to the public.

SNALLYGASTER SIGNING AT FREDERICK LIBRARY ON 12/13/08

Patrick Boyton will be signing copies of his book, Snallygaster: the Lost Legend of Frederick County in the lobby of the C. Burr Artz Library on December 13, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The author will be selling his book for $10.00 at the event. For more information call: 301. 600.1630.

The C. Burr Artz Library is located at 110 E Patrick St. Frederick, MD 21701.

From Rt.15: Exit Rte. 15 onto Patrick St.(Rte.144), going east. Patrick St. becomes a one-way street in the opposite direction, so follow traffic as it bears right onto South St. Stay on Rte. 144 until you reach the traffic light at Market St. (Rte.355 North). Turn left onto Market St. Cross All Saints St., cross the small bridge over Carroll Creek, and turn right down the alley to the Carroll Creek parking deck. The library is directly ahead of you, as you go down the alley to the parking deck. From I-70: Exit I-70 onto Route 355 North (Market St.). Pass CostCo on the right, the Mt. Olivet Cemetery on the left, the Maryland School for the Deaf on the right. Pass South St. and All Saints St - both are traffic lights. Just after All Saints St., pass Capa Imports on the right and go over the small bridge over Carroll Creek. Turn right down the alley to the Carroll Creek parking deck. The library is directly ahead of you, as you go down the alley to the parking deck.

From East St.: Turn onto Patrick St, going west toward downtown area. Get into the left lane when the street becomes one-way. About one half block past Carroll St, there is a traffic light in front of Little's Antiques. Turn left at the light, into the alley. The library will be on your left at the end of the alley. The parking deck will be on your right.

COME CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN WITH THE SNALLYGASTER

Come listen to the legendary story of the Snallygaster during the Block Party. 7-8pm and 9-10pm at the Book Crossing bookstore in Brunswick, MD on 10/31/08. Local storyteller Sam will read passages from "Snallygaster: the Legend of Frederick County." Author Patrick Boyton will be signing copies of his book.
